Actress and singer Keke Palmer’s September 9th appearance on Broadway won’t just be her debut, but a historical milestone for the Broadway stage. Palmer announced that she will be stepping into “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” as the first African-American actress to play the famous princess on The Great White Way.

The multi-hyphenate, who as of last month added the youngest TV show host to her growing resume, still doesn’t believe it is real. The inspirational 20-year-old didn’t miss a beat, using her good news to inspire and influence her fanbase, many of whom tune into Just Keke, her daily BET show. She spoke to her fans about her excitement stepping into those famous Cinderellaslippers through social media.

“UNDERSTAND ME WHEN I SAY THIS: You can do anything you want to do! Your life is your life & your belief in YOU will make it all it can be! Don’t stop at anything, spread LOVE & allow God to guide you, bless you all! Let your light shine my angels!”
Palmer professed on Instagram underneath a picture announcing the news.

Palmer also took the time to explain how her image of Cinderella was influenced by the 1997 TV movie starring two other African-American female singer and actresses: Brandy Norwood andWhitney Houston. Norwood played the title role alongside Houston’s fairy godmother.

Singing and acting eight days a week in a Broadway show is definitely a different experience from appearing in television and feature films but that’s what makes the challenge exciting for the young star. “Thinking about that [audience] gives me energy,” she said. “Seeing that many people in the audience, who you can’t recognize, that’s what excites you and gets you pumped.” Another thing that’s got her pumped are those custom Cinderella slippers designed by Stuart Weitzman specifically for the Broadway play.

Palmer will head to New York right away to delve into four short weeks of grueling rehearsals where she will have to learn lines, dozens of songs and dance moves before the fall debut. She won’t have much time to celebrate her upcoming 21st birthday on August 26. But with Keke Palmer’s infectious personality, upbeat demeanor and love of life, she’s sure to bring the party with her on Broadway.
